### Ancient Greek (polytonic)
The opening of the Odyssey. Every breathing mark, accent, and iota subscript in these four lines is a stress test for polytonic rendering.
Specific forms to check: ἄ (smooth breathing + acute), ὃ (rough breathing + grave), δ᾽ (elision apostrophe), ᾽ (koronis), πόντῳ (iota subscript on omega).
### Mixed Latin and Greek
The word θάλασσα (thalassa, the sea) appears again and again in ancient Greek literature. When Xenophon's ten thousand soldiers finally crested the hill and saw the Black Sea, they cried θάλαττα, θάλαττα. The sea. The sea. Two words that said everything.
Inline polytonic mixed with Latin: the goddess Ἀθηνᾶ (Athena) guides Odysseus. The city of Τροία (Troy). The island of Ἰθάκη (Ithaka).
