# Manifesting Gemmy Earlier this year, when the Obsidian team released [Gemmy](https://github.com/ericaxu/Gemmy), the unhelpful Obsidian AI as an April Fools Joke, the [[TTRPG|TTRPG]] community space of Obsidian fell in love. She became our mascot, but it soon became apparent that she was not as well versed in a fantasy and sci-fi world, and so we sought to truly make her our own. ## Murder Gemmy Using my newly purchased [Midjourney](https://www.midjourney.com/home/) subscription, I went to work trying to make a more TTRPG oriented Gemmy. At the same time, we as a community began working on our expanded Gemmy offshoot, [Granite](https://github.com/Obsidian-TTRPG-Community/Granite). Hundreds of iterations of Gemmy's I evaluated, and none looked quite right. Then, one random one popped up, and we as a group decided that this was the one. The perfect iteration of a Gemmy in a TTRPG. Murderous Dungeonmistress Gemmy. ![[IMG-Manifesting Gemmy-CE42775E968D294010EB6D2AD1B3C1A6.png#outline|400]] This was the start of the communities' new relationship with Gemmy. Not only was she the helpful shard that mocked us when we were not typing. She was also the shard that would make heads roll if they persisted in that behavior. ## Remanifestation In September 2023, I joined the Obsidian team officially after a very short trial. I considered it an example of rolling a D20, and landing on a 20 but not knowing the results until months later. I needed something to commemorate this because this was an "all the stars aligned" moment, , and what better "permanent" hallmark of such than a tattoo? Enter, seeking out a local tattoo artist who had a flair for the macabre. Luckily for me, a well reputed tattoo shot named [Weird Ink Society](https://weirdink.com) had a perfectly quirky artist who could not wait to give this a shot. After a consult with [Erin Hunter](https://www.erinelizabethhunter.com), a deposit, and a month long wait, the first stage of Gemmy is now complete as of 2023-10-27. ![[IMG-Manifesting Gemmy-8F166E779AFD8E750CA534A13DF72F22.png#outline|400]] ## Ascension On November 29th, 2023, a month had passed and the line healing completed. I went back to Erin and we did four hours of straight coloring. To those who have not had a tattoo, anything near the joints is very painful as there are [typically] more mechanoreceptors there, such as the [Ruffini Corpuscle](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bulbous_corpuscle). The act of injecting color into the dermis involves quite a bit of sustained skin stretching, and combined with the perception of sharpness or cutting, it can feel like you are being sliced by a hot knife. But, the results were worth it. This a fresh tattoo, taken in fluorescent lighting, which washes out some of the color detail. When it heals, and we do a final touch-up on it, it will look much better. :) ![[IMG-Manifesting Gemmy-4E3762129465D18BB7C7D5CABBDCD8B7.png]]
